my name is Jason Singer. i currently live in Martinsburg WV. I have 4 kids from 13 to 3 years old (2 boys and 2 girls) my oldest sons name is vijay hence the screen name "vijayson". i have been in the construction industry all my life. i was remodeling houses with my dad at age 6 and have always enjoyed working with my hands. my father and i own a company called innerspace floor to ceiling that currently employs 50 hard working people. we have design showrooms in hagerstown maryland and martinsburg west virginia. we started out doing remodeling back in the late 80's and grew into a kitchen and bath and flooring dealer. we pride ourselves on being a full service company that will do your entire project in house from start to finish.
we have been fabricating solid surface and laminate countertops for about 15 years now. in 2005 we split the top shop into another company called countertop solutions and started fabricating stone. we moved into a 17,000 sq foot shop in hagerstown md where we currently employ 10 people fabricating stone, laminate and solid surface. we service the washington dc / baltimore and northern virginia area and points north and west. last fall we fabricated and installed corian and granite tops for the White House situation room (seriously we did it. it was a very cool project but not allowed to take pictures of the finished product). At the heart of our shop is our northwood stone cnc (that we use to cut anything we can rig it up to hold including corian and stone) park yukon bridge saw a pinske thermoforming oven and streibig panel saw. since we only have 10 guys we cross train our employees to be able to work on all materials we fabricate. we dont have stone guys or solid surface guys we just have workers that can do them all. our business is constantly changing so you have to be flexible. the home building market in our area took a crap about the same time we took the plunge into stone. but we have found commercial millwork shops and commercial builders to be very lucrative accounts and have actually started turning a profit on the new business in just our 2nd year thanks to that market sector. i think i said in a previous post... we are finding ourselves less and less in the "countertop" business and more in the "thingy" business. we are pushing hard to get people to realize that solid surface can be more than just countertops....art work, wall hangings, signs, use your imagination.
anyway, thanks to andy and all who make this site available to us chumps. see you around. Go skins!!!! |

Okay kids- here goes. My name is Glenn Goehring, I'm 41 (gasp!) going on seventeen and working steadily on achieving the title of Fakir extraordinaire. I re-discovered woodworking at about 26 or so when I moved across the great state of South Dakota to be with my lady love. Proir to that my greatest achievement was Army airborne school. in the last twelve years I've worked for three different companies all consisting of the same 30 or so employees. Kinda a funny market here. Currently Working for Classic Marble works in Piedmont , SD. We manufacture cultured marble, laminate C-tops and solid surface. We also install LG's quartz as well... more later, gotta get to work |

You know, I'd be offended if I ever read the stupid book.
Was that Kipling?

Hey everybody,
i just found this site today and i am pretty amazed what you guys set up.
I am probably one of the youngest people on this page.
Im 21yrs old and i currently work at my uncle's business Granite and Marble Express in Northern Virginia.
All we deal with is solid surfaces. We have Granite, Marble and we are a licensed Silestone company.
About six months ago we moved into our new Office/Shop. All the machines are made by Breton in Italy. We have two CnC machines, one Combicut with the waterjet technology and one Speedycut machine. I am trained in all of them.
I signed up here, because it is so hard sometimes so get dxf files from the sink companies. Some of them send them very late, some of them put you on hold for more than hours and some of them don't even provide any templates. Luckily i found this page and the dxf library. That is a great idea and i think it is very useful because i am pretty sure that we are not the only company that hunts for templates that sink companies don't provide.
I am curious about how other granite companies work and how the organization is. Our company is really big and most of the time pretty busy. We currently employ more than 50people. Nevertheless, i think it could be even more effective with a better organization. I hope i can get advice and i am glad that i found this communication and i am sure you guys can help me out with a lot of things.
Until then,
have agreat day. |

Welcome puyakasha,
I enjoy reading about other people and shops in the industry. Feel free to ask any questions here. Someone always answers. It usually does not take a week for someone to welcome you to the site. There must have been a hot debate going on that had everyone's attention.
I see there are lots of new members. Let us hear your story.

Linda, this thread doesn't show up in the "All Public Forums Section" which is aggregated to show all the new posts in one place. This is where myself, and I believe most others go to check posts. Probably the reason for the lack of welcome..
That being said, welcome puyakasha |

Hey bradda, I gots many friends deaa in Kona. Worked in Wiemea for a couple winters. Good friends with some artist from there. Tia Lake (aka MR KOA), Sid Bishop of the infamous Bishops in Hawaii. This blonde kid named Chama who plays music in the Kona plaza there worked for me one summer here in AK. How do ya compete with the stone industry there? Seemed fairly locked up. It was hard to get work done by subs if they surfed. Sure do miss the place around december thru march Welcome DG |

Been meaning to say hi to all for some time now, seems by to time I’m finished reading every ones post it’s a little late, so here goes.
Names Jeff, been living with and married to the same farmers daughter for the last 20 years, keep thinking she’s going to wise up one of these days, but until then I’m the lucky one. We have two middle school daughters, both more into sports than boys for now thank god. Moe and Mac, hence the name of my business Moe-Mac construction, they use to follow me around the shop but not so much any more. One still likes to think she helps polish tops. We live in Chugiak Alaska and if I keep getting my way, here is where we will stay (I’m a Army brat and have lived all over, but have called Alaska home starting in the late 60’s even when we left for a while it was home) Now the farmers daughter would like to return to Northern Minnesota some day, so that’s not to bad either. Went to college at UAA and Cal State Chico (learned a lot there but no degree to show for it) Shane where you in Chico for the pioneer days riot of 86? MTV ruined a good thing.
I had the pleaser of taking the certification class in Henderson from Steve Bace (not sure if that is spelled right). Great time, great class and a bunch of great guys to meet and take the class with. Think I even met Lenny; he did an after noon on the chemistry of solid surface and the differences in acrylic and polyester. Now that was about three years or so ago and I have only been fabricating part time sents then, some day when I retire from my day job I hope to start full time.
Other things that keep me busy is coaching. I coach girl’s fast pitch softball; we are a U14 ASA travel team the Arctic Storm (State Champs this year) the only problems with coaching a summer sport in Alaska is that it interferes too much with FISHING.
Well it’s late and I’m rambling so let’s just say hi. I’m glad that I found the site, I’ve learned so much. Thank you all
Jeff M

The girls and I may be spending a couple days at the cabin in Sterling after Christmas. Could be persuaded to drive to the end of the road for a cup of coffee if you have a job in the shop you’d like to show off? E-mails mattjeff@earthling.net.
